Our History

Ogilvie Jennings is the result of the merger of two long established Hobart firms, Ogilvie McKenna and Jennings Elliott, with history dating back to 1937, and decades of combined experience in Tasmania. Albert Ogilvie was Kings Counsel and Premier of Tasmania. Roger Jennings was Queens Counsel, and Solicitor General for Tasmania. It is their legacy of legal excellence that the firm continues to embrace and follow.

Through the combination of the two firm’s resources, Ogilvie Jennings has been able to take advantage of effective training for all personnel, the efficient capture, retrieval and use of legal knowledge, the ability for legal personnel to specialise in many areas of law and the greater use of technology in our practice.

Where we are today

Over the past 13 years Ogilvie Jennings has built upon the established foundations created by the merger of Ogilvie McKenna and Jennings Elliot. We are able to provide extensive pragmatic and commercial legal advice covering a wide range of legal disciplines.  Ogilvie Jennings cares about people’s rights, and about contributing to a legal system that is fair, and provides affordable and accessible justice to all.

We care about our client’s personal and business interests, and we use the knowledge that we have gained over years and years of established practice to assist our clients in the best possible way.

We’re different

Ogilvie Jennings are not your average lawyers. We are not stuck in an ‘old way of doing things’. We keep up-to-date with the law and our lawyers are constantly keeping ahead of developments in all our practice areas.

We are a problem solving law firm that thinks outside the square, and we are able to provide practical solutions to your legal issues, whilst being accessible at all times. We are lawyers with actual solutions, rather than just information.

We’re approachable and pragmatic lawyers, who are always willing to listen. We like to think of ourselves as more than just lawyers. We like to think of ourselves as skilled advisors. Your advisors.

By developing an in-depth understanding of your personal or business goals allows us to give you the best possible advice, which combined with a real willingness to listen is what sets us apart from other lawyers.
